Girl Power - S.T.E.M. Power!

In March, six students attended the annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day at Bartle Hall.
During the day, students attended a Discipline Fair, where they got to visit different engineers and learn about
what they do on a daily basis. They also attended an Industry Fair where they met with engineering companies
in the Kansas City area and colleges that offer engineering programs. There was a competition of who could
build the strongest structure with various materials and one of our girls' group won. Their structure held 35
sandbags and the team was awarded Target gift cards. During lunch they listened to a speech by Dr. Tara Ruttley,
the Associate Program Scientist for the International Space Station.
The girls had a great day and learned a lot about the engineering field.
